Welcome to the World's First Great Big Vegetable Challenge! Six years ago we went on a vegetable journey of a lifetime. A 7 year year old boy named Freddie and his mother faced up to the challenge of turning him from a Vegetable-Phobic into a boy who will eat and even enjoy some of life's leafier pleasures. We ate through the alphabet of vegetables...and returned to tell the tale. Join our Great Big Veg Challenge!

Those vegetable faces keep coming in.....
It has been Britain's wettest summer on record. Entertaining children in the wet is never easy. We have watched our entire DVD collection, played board games and visited all the museums. But who would have thought the answer to family boredom lay in the vegetable basket? As the rain pelted down on the roof of our kitchen, we made faces out of vegetables. What started off as a desperate cry for help from grinding boredom, has now turned into real entertainment. Here are is an update of all of your creations. We challenged you all to find your inner child and we haven't been disappointed. Especial thanks to children like Ethan, Ella and Leila from Freddie who loved seeing your vegetable pictures.
Those of you who havent yet found time, or vegetables, go on - have a go, you know you want to!

Can you hear me laughing, all the way from Missouri??!!! And Freddie, maybe when you use a particularly yucky-sounding vegetable in a sweet face, then you won't need to actually eat it? (Right, Mum?)
ReplyDeleteCheers, all --
PS Beautiful bok choy!
ReplyDeleteWow that looks great fun - I can't wait to try. Thanks for sharing this - it's another inspirational idea.

Charlotte that is so funny and way too much fun! Unfortunately all the little ones around me are grown people :) but, there is hope! My sister is expecting in October so soon there will be a little one to fuss over and play with :)
ReplyDeleteLooking at those ingredients though - they make we want to go and make some dhal (spicy Indian peas stew that can be made with just the lentil or with vegetables added)
Drat, why'd I throw out my wilted scallions yesterday? Let me see what I can rustle up. This is brilliant!
ReplyDeleteCynthia,
ReplyDeleteYou know you want to - go on - everyone has an inner child that needs to burst out and make vegetable faces. Make us a barbadian face!
Charlotte

ReplyDeleteBrilliant idea Charlotte - we certainly need a dash of silly fun when the weather is so yucky!
My effort is on my blog (and I've emailed you a file too). Including my 'Salford Black' Runner Beans - seeds and green pods.

Better & Better & Better !!!
ReplyDeleteWONDERFUL faces ... yesterday I made one quickly as kitchen therapy, and it made me feel much much better. Today, inspired by Alex, Charlotte, Amanda and of course Celia, I'm going to make another, in my attempt at art. Yes, it IS addictive!

Divine. I emailed you my link!
ReplyDeleteVery creative ... and a fun way to play with food. It reminds me of a song we sing with the school kids ... Aiken Drum
