Welcome to the World's First Great Big Vegetable Challenge! Six years ago we went on a vegetable journey of a lifetime. A 7 year year old boy named Freddie and his mother faced up to the challenge of turning him from a Vegetable-Phobic into a boy who will eat and even enjoy some of life's leafier pleasures. We ate through the alphabet of vegetables...and returned to tell the tale. Join our Great Big Veg Challenge!

The Cupcake man strikes again
One of the reasons Freddie and I started the GreatBigVegChallenge was that it should be an adventure - an attempt to challenge all his fears about eating vegetables. There used to be regular dramas over peas; tantrums that would be triggered off by the presence of five innocent green dots on his plate. Which is the point at which I sat down one evening with him and talked about what we could do to help him to enjoy vegetables. Hence the GreatBigVegChallenge was born. Mixing our metaphors here, the world is our oyster, when it comes to vegetable recipes. And the Cupcake man from Sacramento is something of a Philias Fogg when it comes to making extraordinary culinary journeys. The picture above is his creation this week. A sweet pea cupcake. An uncompromisingly green cake. A Kermit of confections. The man is a genius. Freddie and I are presently on C for Carrots...and it is going swimmingly well. But we are hiding this green cupcake up our sleeves for when its P for peas. Fred's nemesis.
